The boats depart near Margaritaville Key West Resort & Marina. You can drive till Mallory square, leave your car on the nearby parking lot and take a 5-minutes boat trip to the island. For sports enthusiasts, there are volleyball courts available. Sunset views are incredible – don’t miss them if you’re lucky to stay on the island overnight. There is a pier with fishing equipment provided so you can enjoy a couple of hours fishing. There are bathrooms on the beach, so you don’t have to go back to your accommodation once you need to use those. Another downside is that the beach is quite rocky, so water shoes are highly recommended. There may be currents (including those created by the ferry), so be careful in the water. The other swimming spot has got two water breakers and is situated in the western part of the island. The beach is small and not suitable for strolling or running but you can sunbathe and swim there. There are lounge chairs, umbrellas, and plenty of shady palm trees. It boasts a serene white-sand shoreline that rarely gets crowded. The one featuring a roped-off swimming area is located in the north end of the island to the right from the Latitude restaurant. There are two main swimming spots on the island. There is no grocery shop either, so it’s better to always have some snacks and drinking water at hand. Note that Latitude Café is the only restaurant on the island and when it’s closed you can only dine out on the mainland or have a picnic with your own food. The spa is also available to non-residents. Latitude Café serves Caribbean delicacies to guests as well as non-guests. There is an in-house spa offering a wide range of exotic treatments and massages. If you don’t like the conditions of the beach, you can go to the swimming pool with cooler water. Since there are no cars on the island, you can travel only on foot or on golf carts (all distances are very short). You can access the island only on a comfortable shuttle boat running from Margaritaville Marina on the mainland (every 30 minutes from early morning until 2 a.m.). Sunset Key is located approximately 500 yards from Key West Harbor. The serene and tranquil ambiance of the resort makes it a perfect destination for a relaxing and soothing family or romantic vacation away from the stressful, noisy, and polluted city. There are no cars and no crowds on the island. The cottages are dotted along the white-sand beach with crystal clear waters, thatched huts, and swaying hammocks.
